Building Green.
Home Green Home supervises the “from ground up” construction of a new home in central Oregon. (Besides being recognized as one of the nation’s hotbeds of green awareness and innovation, central Oregon’s high-desert environment often experiences the extremes of all four seasons — providing an ideal year-round laboratory in which to fairly test these new green building alternatives.)

Emphasis is placed on planning, building and cost-analysis. Proper site and building design and orientation provide significant energy savings through passive solar heating and cooling. Construction materials such as E-Crete™, engineered lumber, SIPs, ICFs, high-efficiency insulation, doors and windows unite to make an energy-conserving building envelope. Modern appliances, formaldehyde-free wood alternatives and non-toxic finishes reduce indoor pollution, creating a quieter, cleaner, safer living environment.

Throughout the project, our "Green Team" compares the economics, practicality, sustainability and health values of green building to those of traditional methods and materials. Cut-away interviews with owners of green homes within a variety of communities are used to illustrate and validate the design and construction choices.

Green remodeling and decorating.
Home Green Home introduces products such as certified, sustainably-harvested wood products; natural and recycled-content floor coverings, tiles and counter-tops; zero-emission paints and adhesives; as well as energy- conserving appliances into the remodeling process.

Each episode features a different location, and a different remodeling task and solution. Green Team members focus on the beauty, functionality and expense and/or savings of today’s green alternatives and their specific applications.
